If there is one natural ingredient that is pretty much adored by beauty bloggers and crunchy moms alike it’s coconut oil. I mean what’s not to like? You can cook with it, take of your eyeliner, condition your hair and it’s pretty great for diaper rash.

I get the appeal and I’ve tried to love coconut oil. I really have. I’ve tried everything from cold pressed to the cheap blue bottle of Parachute my husband buys at the grocery store. The end result is always the same. A heavy, pore clogging mess and greasy hobo hair.

I’ve finally come to accept that coconut oil just doesn’t work that well for me. I wasn’t prepared though for how controversial that opinion would be. When you tell a crunchy mom you prefer grapeseed oil as a facial moisturizer you may as well be saying ‘Sorry, I just prefer meth to coffee’ because the reaction is the same. Utter bewilderment with a touch of disgust. How dare you slather your face with an inferior natural remedy. SHAME.

If like me, you too feel that coconut oil just isn’t your bag don’t be afraid to breakout of that glass jar. Grapeseed, rosehip, sweet almond, and avocado oil are all awesome and deserve way more love than they get and if you’re judging people based on their love of coconut oil or lack thereof…please God…get a hobby. I hear knitting is fun.
